SVI Engineering, leading specialist manufacturer of armoured products, says its B6 Stopgun V2.0 kit for the Toyota Hilux has become the preferred choice in South Africa’s security industry, saving lives on a weekly basis.
The popular Stopgun V2.0 package, which is also available for the Ford Ranger line-up, provides South African security forces with a cost-effective B6 armouring solution to combat crime, escort valuables in transit and use for mining patrols.
THE STOPGUN V2.0 KIT
The semi-discreet kit is available for single-, extended- or double-cab body styles, and offers protection against assault rifles (including AK47 and R1). It takes around four weeks to prepare and just three weeks to install, with the vehicle remaining serviceable at the agent.
Replacing the widely used double-door system with unobtrusive integrated door armour, the Stopgun V2.0 option includes upgraded door hinges to handle the additional mass of the B6 components. Flat armoured glass is bolted into each window frame to allow for fuss-free replacement should damage be sustained during an attack.
This system, which can be seen in detail in a new video uploaded to SVI’s YouTube channel, provides similar ballistic protection to the old double-door arrangement but reduces the personal injury risk considerably. Furthermore, the curtain airbag (where fitted as standard) remains fully functional, which is a first for this armouring segment.
In addition to the integrated door armour, the roof, front fenders, all pillars, all glass and part of the firewall gain B6 bullet-resistant protection, as does the under-bonnet battery and ABS unit. Gunports are provided as standard but can be deleted upon request. Since the total mass addition for a double cab is around 650 kg, SVI Engineering includes a front suspension upgrade in the price.
According to Nicol Louw, Business Development Manager at SVI, the Stopgun V2.0 kit has become the default solution for South African security companies, be they in the business of transporting valuables, responding to emergencies or patrolling high-risk areas.
“The armoured bakkie has proven itself as a robust crime-fighting tool in local conditions, with high volumes in active duty across South Africa. Damaged and attacked armoured security vehicles come in for repairs on a weekly basis after having saved the lives of their occupants.
“If your security company is running unarmoured vehicles in its crime-fighting fleet, it’s taking an entirely unnecessary risk. The solution is the SVI Stopgun V2.0 kit, which is not only cost effective and functional but now more user friendly than ever,” said Louw.
