MasterDrive, a leading driver training organisation, is gearing up for its third annual Fleet Safety Awards on 20 November. This prestigious event aims to recognise and reward excellence in road safety across the transport industry, with over R200 000 in prizes up for grabs.

The 2024 Fleet Safety Awards have several categories that cater for different roles within organisations, including Best Fleet Manager, Best Organisation, Road Warrior, Best Employer and Most Improved Truck Stop. New this year is the addition of the SABOA Fleet Safety Awards, designed specifically for the bus and coach industry.

Previous winners have seen significant benefits from their participation in the event. Edward Hoffmann, Site Manager at DP World and overall winner of last year’s Fleet Manager Award, said: “Winning the Fleet Safety Award has significantly reinforced our commitment to road safety. It has inspired us to raise the bar even higher, with a renewed focus on continuous improvement, advanced safety technologies and enhanced driver training programmes”.

“Winning the award was a significant milestone in my career, giving me greater visibility within the industry. It has also led to invitations to share my expertise, including being asked to speak at the Road Freight SME Summit 2024. This recognition has not only validated my approach to fleet management, but has also motivated me to pursue further higher education to further develop my knowledge and skills. The award has inspired me to continue to push the boundaries of excellence in the field, ensuring that I remain at the forefront of industry developments.”

Jonathan Mphake, National Fleet Manager at SBV South Africa and previous winner of Best Fleet Manager in the Medium Commercial Vehicle category, adds: “The Fleet Safety Award has been a powerful catalyst for continuous improvement in our safety standards. It’s inspired me to continue to develop innovative safety practices and focus on the human element behind the wheel”.

MasterDrive’s Fleet Safety Awards have also led to industry-wide improvements. Mphake notes, “We have participated in joint initiatives with other fleet management companies, sharing best practice and innovative approaches. The award has positioned us as a thought leader in fleet safety and fostered a collaborative environment where we work with industry peers to make South Africa’s roads safer for all.”

The awards present a unique opportunity for organisations to showcase their commitment to road safety, potentially secure substantial rewards and contribute to the broader goal of improving road safety in South Africa. By participating in these awards, companies are able to benchmark their safety performance year-on-year, allowing them to track progress and identify areas for improvement.

The event also provides a platform to recognise and reward teams for their commitment to road safety, boosting morale and reinforcing the importance of these efforts. In addition, the awards provide valuable networking opportunities, enabling participants to connect with industry peers and share best practice.

“I encourage all fleet managers and companies to enter the Fleet Safety Awards. It’s an excellent opportunity to benchmark your safety practices and gain recognition for your commitment. Remember, these awards are not just about winning, they are about learning and sharing best practice to raise industry standards”, concludes Mphake.

The deadline for entries is 25 September.  For more information about the awards and to enter, visit https://fleetsafetyawards.co.za/site/
